GAZA CITY (AFP) - An Israeli air strike killed three 
Palestinians in the southern Gaza Strip on Tuesday, the territory s 
Hamas-run health ministry said.<br />

"Three martyrs have died in a Zionist (Israeli) strike," ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra told AFP.<br />

The three were members of the Al-Quds Brigades, a statement from the group said.<br />

It said they had been killed after firing mortars in a bid to try and prevent "an Israeli incursion east of Khan Yunis."<br />

A witness confirmed Israeli tanks and bulldozers had tried to enter the area.<br />

The Israeli military confirmed it had carried out an air strike, targeting Islamic Jihad militants who had fired at troops.<br />
<br />

"Moments ago, terrorists affiliated with the Palestinian Islamic 
Jihad in the southern Gaza Strip fired a mortar shell at IDF (army) 
forces. An IAF aircraft responded immediately in order to prevent 
further attacks on Israeli civilians and targeted the terrorist squad," 
it said.<br />

The air strike came just hours after an unmanned aircraft of the sort
 Israel uses for surveillance and missile strikes crashed in the same 
area, just east of Khan Yunis.<br />

It was unclear if the two incidents were related.<br />

into a scene of death and destruction when two suicide bombers and their armed
accomplices attacked the compound, killing 11 people, including an additional
sessions judge, and injuring over two dozen others.</span></div>

courts in Sector F-8 echoed with a silence that only death can master.</span></div>

They entered
the district courts through an entrance in the back. Later in the day, it
transpired that the attackers belonged to a little-known militant group called

implementation of Sharia [law] and it has not been mentioned in the talks.”</span></div>

‘roamed freely’ through the narrow streets lined with lawyers’ chambers, firing

grenade hurled by one of the attackers into the Waqar Gillani hall, a
cafeteria-like area where lawyers huddle in the morning, had actually exploded.
Some eyewitnesses said the attackers were only targeting government servants
and lawyers and told other civilians to leave the premises. There was also
speculation about the kind of cases that a judge killed in the attack was
hearing or had heard in the past to fix the motive.</span></div>

front of the courts. Inside the rooms, furniture and file cabinets were smashed
violently against each other. Throughout the compound, there were bullet holes
staring back from windows and blood stains and tiny bits of flesh strewn on the

Awan’s court, causing a crater. Police found the head and legs of one of the
bombers. Intelligence sources claimed one gunman, wearing a red sweater,

Pakistan's new security policy aims to reform madrassas

<strong>ISLAMABAD: Pakistan plans to bring 
all of its madrassas, or religious schools, under its national education
 system within one year under a landmark security policy aimed at 
combating extremism.</strong><br />
The first “National Internal 
Security Policy”, a copy of which was seen by AFP on Sunday, says that 
some of the country's 22,000 madrassas are responsible for spreading 
extremism.<br />
Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan presented the
 policy in parliament on Wednesday after a decade-long Islamist 
insurgency that has claimed thousands of lives and cost the economy 
“more than $78 billion”.<br />
On the topic of religious schools, the 
document says: “It is important to mention upfront that not all 
madrassas are a problem and therefore these must not be viewed 
negatively as a whole.<br />
“However, there were problems within some 
madrassas which have spread extremism,” it adds, noting “financing from 
unidentified sources” and the “publication and distribution of hate 
material”.<br />
The vast majority of madrassas in Pakistan fall outside government control.<br />
There
 are allegations that some madrassas are also involved in preaching 
violence and propagating hatred toward other sects and non-Muslims.<br />
“A
 large number of terrorists, either are, or have been students of 
madrassas where they were brainwashed to take up arms against the 
state,” the paper said.<br />
The 94-page policy document offers a 
candid and introspective look at where Pakistan has been failing in its 
efforts to fight terror.<br />
The policy calls on the government “to 
build a national narrative on extremism and terrorism” -- opinion polls 
in the past have shown there is no overwhelming public consensus on 
tackling extremist groups.<br />
The document also calls for the 
establishment of a Federal Rapid Response Force and Counter Terrorism 
Department within police forces in the next six months.<br />
The 
Pakistani Taliban on Saturday announced a month-long ceasefire aimed at 
resuming stalled peace talks with the Pakistan government, but analysts 
voiced scepticism over the move.<br />
Dialogue between Islamabad and 
the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) that began last month was suspended
 after the militants killed 23 soldiers.<br />
The military responded with a series of air strikes that have left more than 100 insurgents dead.<br />

decided to reciprocate by halting aerial military activities against
Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Dunya News reported.<br />
According to a statement issued by Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar, government
has suspended all military activities against the outlawed outfit after
announcing the ceasefire.<br />
Formally announcing the ceasefire, Ch Nisar said government regards Taliban’s
ceasefire as a positive development.<br />
It is pertinent to mention here that TTP announced a ceasefire on Saturday for
a month.<br />
According to reports, Taliban commanded all subgroups to ‘respect’ the
ceasefire.<br />
Shahidullah Shahid claimed that government has responded positively to TTP’s
recommendations and have assured implementation.<br />
Talking to Dunya News, Taliban committee member Yousaf Shah confirmed the
reports saying breaking of the ice is a positive development.<br />
Reportedly, Interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has telephoned Taliban committee
patron Samiul Haq who is in Madina to perform religious rituals. According to
the reports, Taliban and government committees will meet in next two days.<br />
Government’s committee member Irfan Siddiqui while speaking to Dunya News said
they have not received official reports of the development yet and that their
source for now is the media. Commending the move, Siddiqui said that government
committee welcomes the move and that this is a positive development. He termed
the move as step in the right direction.<br />
Government committee and other political figures have been urging Taliban to
announce unconditional ceasefire to farther the peace talks.<br />
Talks with Taliban were halted last month following their claiming
responsibility of killing 23 rangers.</span></div>

QUETTA: The Frontier Corps recovered three foreigners kidnapped by a gang of
drug traffickers and arrested eight Iranians who were holding them, after a
raid on a house in Turbat on Saturday. <br />

“Two Tanzanians and a Yemeni national had been detained by the Iranian
nationals in the house in Overseas Colony,” an FC official said. An FC
spokesman said the eight persons arrested by FC troops were Iranian nationals
and initial investigation had revealed that they belonged to a gang involved in
drug trafficking.<br />

The spokesman also clarified that the border security guards from the
neighbouring country who had been kidnapped on Feb 6 were not among the
Iranians arrested in Kech district.<br />

PESHAWAR: At least three suspected militants 
were killed and three others injured in an exchange of fire between 
security officials and suspected militants in the Khyber Agency. <br />

According to official sources, in the Shlobar area of the Khyber 
Agency, security officials tried to stop a suspicious vehicle, when it 
did not stop the security personnel opened fire on it. <br />

Three suspected militants died on the spot, whereas, three others wounded were arrested by security forces afterwards. <br />

Sources added that two security personnel were also injured in the exchange of fire. <br />

Khyber is part of Pakistan’s semi-autonomous tribal belt on the 
Afghan border. The Taliban and other Al Qaeda-linked groups, who stage 
attacks in both countries, are known to have strongholds in the zone.<br />
